James about 5 years old
This family snapshot was originally black and white. We have colourised it and taken great care in finding correct colours. However it is our guess. James wears a light-coloured cardigan sweater and khaki shorts. He has a striped, mostly white shirt and a red tie. James has three-quarter white socks and brown t-bar sandals which the English would call school sandals. His hair is cut in bangs and long at the sides over his ears. You can tell that he has not yet begun school.

Diese Photo ist eigentlich eine Schwarz-weiß-Photo. Wir haben das Bild koloriert und dabei versucht, möglicht authentische Farben zu wählen. Jedoch ist es nur unsere Interpretation. James trägt eine hellfarbene Strickjacke und eine kurze Hose in khaki. Er hat ein gestreiftes, zumeist weißes Hemd und eine rote Krawatte. James trägt weiße 3/4 Strümpfe und braune Sandalen, die in England auch von den jüngeren Kindern zur Schule getragen wurden. Seine Frisur hat einen Pony und ist an den Seiten länger. Ein deutliches Zeichen, dass James noch ein Vorschulkind ist.

James about 7 years old
Here we see James at about age 7. He wears a rather unusual broad-brimmed hat. He would have begun school by age 7 and his hair has been cut short. He wears a white shirt with a pointed collar and tie with a square end. He has a light-colored blazer, but we are not sure about the color, perhaps light blue. He also wears light-colored shorts, but the do not seem to be white, or at least not the pristine white of his shirt. He wears school sandals without socks, common in England at the time during the summer months.

Auf diesem Bild ist James ca. 7 Jahre alt. Er trägt einen Hut mit ungewöhnlich breiter Krempe. Mit 7 ist er ein Schulkind und seine Haare sind nun kurz geschnitten. Er hat ein weißes Hemd mit einem Kragen mit spitzen Enden. Die Krawatte dagegen hat ein gerade geschnittenes Ende. Sein Blazer hat eine helle Farbe. Welche Farbe ist schwer zu sagen, vielleicht hellblau. Auch seine kurze Hose ist hellfarben, nicht weiß, jedenfall nicht so weiß wie das Hemd. Er trägt Schulsandalen ohne Socken, in England zu dieser Zeit ganz üblich in den Sommermonaten.
