Boys Fashion in Germany in the 1870s
Knabenmode in Deutschland in den 1870ern

Jackets:
In this decade as well as in the last one we often see collarless jackets where only the topmost button was closed. Either the other buttons were left open or more often the jacket simply had just one button or connecting tab.

Jackets:
Häufig sehen wir in diesem Jahrzehnt, wie aber auch schon im vorigen, bei den Knaben kragenlose Jackets, die nur mit einem Knopf, dem obersten, geschlossen wurden. Entweder wurden die anderen Knöpfe offen gelassen, häufiger aber hatte das Jacket nur einen Knopf.

This and that jackets were often cut round on the lower front was probably influenced by the military uniform of the Zouaves.
Small white shirt-collars were fashionable, often turned down over the jacket.

Diese Mode orientierte sich an der Uniform der Zuaven. Modisch war ein kleiner weißer Kragen, der in der Regel nach außen umgeschlagen wurde.

With the collar a small and narrow real bow-tie could be worn (that looked more like a loop).

Zum Kragen konnte eine kleine Fliege getragen werden, die mehr einer gebundenen Schleife glich.

But there were also jackets in military hussar style,

some with a asymmetrical button-facing

solche mit einer asymmetrischen Knopfleiste

and belted tunics or combinations.

und gegürtete Tunikas oder Kombinationen.

Trousers:
In the 1870s boys wore more and more short trousers but mostly still rather long compared to later decades.

Hosen:
In diesem Jahrzehnt sieht man immer häufiger, dass die Knaben nun kurze Hosen tragen. In der Regel aber dennoch relativ lang (z.B. 3/4 Schnitt).

But there were also young boys still wearing long trousers.

Noch immer sieht man allerdings auch recht junge Knaben mit langen Hosen.

Stockings:
Apparently white

Strümpfe:
Häufig sieht man weiße

and striped stockings were rather fashionable.

oder aber gestreifte Strümpfe.

Hair:
Boys wore short hair. Styles were shorter than the 1860s, but still long enough to comb. The cropped hair common at the end of the century was not yet common.

Haar:
Die Knaben hatten kurzes Haar, aber nicht so kurz geschoren wie teilweise um 1900.
